Street activities permit application

All traders are required to obtain a permit for items to be placed in accordance with the Street Activities Policy.  All permit conditions must be adhered to at all times.

Permit fees

To ensure we continue to support these businesses over the next 12 months, Council will waive all fees associated with Street Activities permits for outdoor dining and for extension of dining permits. Current and new permits that involve tables and chairs are free of charge until 30 June 2022. See all other fees.

Public Liability (Certificate of Currency)

You will need to submit a copy of your up to date public liability insurance each year.

Public Liability insurance must remain current for the duration of the permit.

Your public liability insurance should:

  • show a current expiry date
  • provide a minimum indemnity of $20million.

A tax invoice cannot be accepted.

Sketch plan

Please provide a sketch showing the preferred location of advertising sign, display goods, tables and chairs, umbrellas, barriers or other items.

Please indicate the width and length of the proposed area, location of trees, pit covers and other permanent fixtures.

Areas for each zone will vary depending on local conditions. These variations will be considered as each application is assessed. Once the proposed area has been inspected and approved, the trading zone will be delineated.

Note: A-board sign must not exceed 1 metre high x 0.6 metres wide.

Terms and conditions

To be granted a permit under the Street Activities Policy, an applicant must agree to comply with all requirements of this Policy.
  • No items or goods can be placed outside your business until a valid permit has been issued.
  • All permits expire on 30 June each year.

  • Permits are not transferable.

  • Renewal notices will be sent out yearly prior to the 30 June expiry date.

  • Permits will not be issued to a residential address.

You must also complete a CovidSafe plan and follow the most current Chief Health Officer public health directions and guidelines while trading under the Street Activities Permit.


If approved, you will receive a permit within 10 business days.
